Subject : SOS . THE CRITICAL CONDITION OF MR. NGUYEN VAN HAI ( BLOGGER DIEU CAY )
We, the Vietnamese bloggers, are writing this letter to inform you about the critical condition of Mr. Nguyen Van Hai.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hai is also known as blogger Dieu Cay – his pen name. Dieu Cay has been rewarded by the US-based VietnamHuman Rights Network (VNHRN) in 2008 and the Human Rights Watch Hellman/Hamlet in 2009. He is also known as one of the first persons who warns against the Chinese invasion in Vietnam.
On October 19th, 2010, instead of being released after two years and a half in prison, Mr. Nguyen Van Hai were held up by the police, he was still remained and received another new charge of "propaganda against the Socialist Republic of Vietnam" under Article 88 of the Criminal Code. His family came to the prison many times in attempt to visit him accordingly to the law, but the police has denied the family the rights of visiting. His family are very worried for his health conditions and for his life because they have no news about him for more than a year. His family does not know if he is still alive or dead.
On July 5th, 2011, Mrs. Duong Thi Tan (blogger Dieu Cay’s wife) received a leaking news from a prison deputy that her husband had physically lost a hand while in prison. However, the family was not informed about the details of what had occurred inside the prison walls that led into this physical loss. No family member was allowed to visit him. The family is very worried and concerned for his health conditions.
We urge you to send representatives to the prison to directly visit Mr. Nguyen Van Hai and to ensure that his family is allowed to exercise visitation rights according to the laws. We urge you to call on the government of Vietnam - the Vietnamese Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem, demanding that Mr.Nguyen Van Hai be released, his family be allowed to visit him and provide critical assistance to him, the Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, demanding a stop to brutal treatment of prisoners of conscience and investigate Hoang Van Dung’s brutality towards Mr. Nguyen Van Hai.

19/10/2010, đúng một năm trước đây, cộng đồng blogger Việt Nam đang hân hoan chào đón blogger Điếu Cày mãn hạn tù trở về. Nhiều người đã chọn ngày 19/10 làm "Ngày Blogger Việt Nam" với hình ảnh trên avatar là hình ảnh thân thương và bất khuất của anh Điếu Cày. Và niềm hân hoan ấy đã vụt tắt !
Blogger Điếu Cày đã không có 1 phút giây tự do sau khi đã mãn hạn 36 tháng tù giam vì cái án "trốn thuế" đê tiện và hèn hạ của nhà cầm quyền. Tưởng không cần phải nhắc lại những hành động can trường của anh khi cùng bạn bè trong CLB Nhà báo Tự do đã phát động phong trào dân báo, đòi hỏi tự do thông tin, tự do ngôn luận, công khai đứng về phía những người bị áp bức. Đặc biệt, Blogger Điếu Cày và bạn bè đã mạnh mẽ biểu tình chống sự xâm lược của TQ, chống Olympic Bắc Kinh vào những ngày cuối năm 2007 & đầu năm 2008. Những hình ảnh và hành động ấy đã khiến nhà cầm quyền run sợ. Họ đã dùng đủ mọi thủ đoạn đê tiện để triệt hạ anh Điếu Cày cùng bạn bè anh.
